Jason Clement ALS Fund
2018 Tim Sheehy Gala
May 29th, New York, NY
This event evolved from a collaboration between two great organizations, Project Main Street and Team Gleason.
Project Main St and its mission were conceived entirely by Tim Sheehy during his own courageous battle with ALS. Tim never stopped working on Project Main St. and his desire to help others grew stronger, even as his illness progressed. On April 23, 2007 Tim Sheehy, 38, succumbed to ALS, but not before seeing his vision of a support system for families struggling with this debilitating neurological disease become a reality.
Steve Gleason played for The New Orleans Saints from 2000-2008. As a counter-culture athlete who spent his off-season adventuring in third world countries, he will always be remembered for his blocked punt on the night the Louisiana Superdome reopened for the first time after Hurricane Katrina. In January, 2011 Steve was diagnosed with ALS, considered a terminal neuromuscular disease. Beyond his faith that there is a solution to heal, it is his mission to show that patients can not only live but thrive after this diagnosis. In doing so, he hopes to inspire others to do the same. With that in mind, Steve and his wife, Michel, formed “Team Gleason” to help him accomplish those goals and more.
These two organizations are very near and dear to Jason, as both have helped Jason significantly. Project Main Street provided Jason and Deb with a grant to cover their out of pocket expenses related to Jason's motorized wheelchair. While Team Gleason provided Jason with a Microsoft tablet and Tobii eye gaze technology that allows Jason to remain connected to friends, family and the outside world.
The people that Deb, Ashley, John and Jason met during the event in 2017 were so kind that there was no way that we were going to miss the 2018 event. Once again, we had an amazing night at the Gala. While everyone from both Project Main Street and Team Gleason was spectacular, my highlight was meeting Steve Gleason. It's not often you get to meet one of your heroes and less often that they surpass your expectations! Steve could not have been more personable, humble and welcoming! And the speech that he made was truly inspiring, not to mention downright funny! Special thanks to Katie Sheehy, Sally Cox, Jon Sciambi, Blair Casey, as well as Michel and Steve Gleason!
